ERT Documentary Series “Diaspora – Communities – Benefactors: From Me to We”

Documentary Series “Diaspora – Communities – Benefactors: From Me to We” (2021)

Manos Markantonis was commissioned to compose and produce the music for the titles of the 16-episode documentary series entitled “Diaspora – Communities – Benefactors: From me to we” – created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution – for the state-owned public radio and television broadcaster of Greece (ERT). As part of the project, the composer also contributed as a music curator.

The National Benefactors are a very important chapter in our recent history. Zosimades, Kaplanis, Arsakis, Zappes, Dombolis, Sines, Tositsas, Stournaris, Averof, Benakides, Choremides, Maraslis, Varvakis, Syggros, Pantos, Charokopos, Aeginitis and many others, left an emblematic heritage to the capital of the new Greek state, in Ioannina and in their places of residence or stay. A real in-depth research on the revealing chapter of Benevolence. From the 18th century until the collapse of the empires, to the period of the establishment of the nation-states, during the first post-war years, to modern Institutional Benevolence. The course and the adventurous life of the benefactors, which becomes a magnifying glass for us to re-read, to re-learn the modern history of Hellenism, was sought and recorded by the ERT series entitled “Diaspora – Communities – Benevolence. Moving on from the “I” to the “We”.
